田立克除了專注於基督教與現代文化及思潮的對話，在晚年更特別著力於與其他宗教、尤其是與佛教的對話，而本書所要探討的正是田立克對宗教對話的神學基礎的討論。 田立克已有多本著作翻譯成中文，但討論田立克神學的中文專書卻非常缺乏，本書的出版將有助促進漢語對田立克之研究。
